Au Revoir Les Enfants

Set in a rural Catholic boarding school during the Nazi occupation of France, Au Revoir Les Enfants charts the friendship between Julien (Gaspard Manesse) and new boy Jean (Raphael Fejtö). But Julien is soon burdened with a dangerous secret – that Jean is secretly a Jew who is being hidden from the Nazis by the friars who run the school.

Based on events from Malle’s own schooldays, Au Revoir Les Enfants is Malle’s most auto-biographical work. A world-wide box-office triumph and widespread critical success, the film won the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival and the Bafta for Best Foreign Film.
